Doll Sweet Yolanda head - S-class vs. standard makeup
Hi,
out of curiosity I ordered a Doll Sweet Yolanda head with S-class makeup since I have another Yolanda head here with standard makeup (from ~2017). What I wanted to explore were the exact differences between S-class and standard makeup.
The setup I have used for the following pictures is a little bit different from what I normally do: These photos were taken with
- direct frontal ligtning, two Walimex Pro Daylight 250S for continuous lighting, color temperature ~5400 K, with metal reflector and white translucent brollies (direct lightning to reduce color reflections from the walls);
- camera mounted on a tripod, f/8.0, around 1/5-1/8 secs (to get a consistent depth of field);
- no additional indirect lightning, no room lightning, no daylight (to get an accurate skin color reproduction)
The heads shown below are like so:
- Yolanda on the left is standard makeup, LPink skin color and brown eyes; soft silicone blend from ~2017;
- Yolanda on the right is S-class makeup, Cream skin color and purple eyes; hard silicone blend as of 087/2018 (DS: "for better color detals, S class make-up only for hard silicone"; so S-class makeup is always tied with the new hard silicone blend).

The differences are not too impressive, as far as I can tell.
However, it it worth mentioning that Yolanda is not a recommended head for S-class makeup. Before placing the order, Steven from DS told me:

Re: Doll Sweet Yolanda head - S-class vs. standard makeup
Hi,
what I was originally hoping for was to discover clearly visible differences between standard and S-level makeup.
Considering the (significant) extra charge for S-class makeup, the outcome might be considered a bit chastening.
However, I don't think that this side-by-side comparison can be generalized.
There are differences, I just can not point my finger at them yet.
This emphasizes the importance of choosing the heads with S-class makeup very deliberately.
On some heads, it is a significant enhancement.
E.g. Kayla with S-class makeup (factory photo):
…or Thera with or S-class makeup (own photo):
These S-level variants look just stunning.
Also, S-class makeup is less shiny and - as far as I can tell - by several orders of magnitude more photogenic.
Configuration above is a DS-167 Evo in cream skin tone, Yolanda head with S-class makeup and custom wig (brand 'Falamka', type 3T9035).
Picture taken with natural lightning in the back and indirect fill flash - no annoying reflections.
