Weekly summary 38/2020

Hi,

this is a summary of what was going in the doll world in the 38th week of 2020, as far as we at Dollstudio & DS Doll Europe were concerned.

1) Novel Coronavirus situation.

a) The pandemic situation in general. The amount of daily new infections slighty raised on average between about a quarter million and above 300,000 per day. Most active hot spots in the past week remained India, Brazil, and Argentina. Newcomers in the five-figure-group were France and Spain.

The number of total confirmed cases has exceeded 31 million; as of today, it is at 31,169,705. So far, 964,051 deaths were recorded.

b) Impact on the doll business. Sitation in a nutshell: Not much has changed. Many Chinese sellers remain unreliable and unresponsive. Some shipments are delivered, but many remain in transit limbo for way too long. Configuration mistakes increase, especially for those models where the factory refuses to make QC photos before shipping (which is no surprise).

Among the few signs for enhancements: The new 'DHL special line' for EU destinations works outstandingly well. Turnaround times for shipments are below two weeks including import fees cearance. That is close to drop-shipping performance. The downside is that this new method is so far only available for a fews brands, and only for very small packages like miniature dolls.

Also notweworthy is that a regular export shipment from Berlin, Germany, to the U.S. took less than a weeks with DHL Express. This speed is fully on a level with pre-pandemic logistics. Just a little bit more expensive.

2) New arrivals.

This week, four new heads were introduced:

• Gynoid Tech ›Lisa‹ head - silicone
• HR Doll no. 39 head - TPE
• Irontech ›Christel‹ head - TPE
• SE Doll ›Ayaka‹ head (SE no. 071) - TPE

Also, two new body styles were released:

• New arrivals: Gynoid Tech GT-170 body style (= Model 13) / silicone / ~170 cm / ~30 kg
• New arrivals: WM Dolls WM-162/F body style - TPE / 162 cm / 34 kg

These stats reflect what our (potential) customers are interested in; however, it does not indicate conversions. The stats are broken down by the geographical distribution area, so this might give some insight about varying regional tastes or preferences.

The doll that generated most attention by far in the past week was Gynoid Tech's new Model 13. This (stunningly beautiful doll) was the most popular doll on all three Dollstudio sites. However, once more, attention did not convert into sales.
